Lesbian and Gay Community Center of Kansas City (LGCCKC) Collection
Scope and Contents
The LGCCKC Collection was gifted to the LaBudde Special Collections in February 2010 by Dan Melton, former Treasurer and Development Officer of the organization. The collection contains a great deal of documentation related the early history of the Center, including Board minutes, Friends of the Community Center minutes, and a Board Notebook. In addition, there is a large amount of material related to Out in Westport and other outreach activities, and a good collection of Center newsletters is present as well.
The collection is very strong in material from other organizations, e.g. brochures, newsletters, etc. This likely stems from the Center’s role as a clearinghouse of information for the gay and lesbian community. In addition, there are a substantial number of commercial and activist publications, from the Kansas City area and across the United States. Many date from the late 1960s and early 1970s, and most are from the lesbian and feminist communities.
