Scope and Contents

Dr. Jerry Richardson, P.E., D.WRE returned to tell "Building Kansas City" about the remarkable life of Colonel John Wesley Powell. Powell navigated small craft (often alone) down the Ohio, Mississippi, and Colorado Rivers. Powell lost his right arm in the Civil War, but went on to explore rivers and establish the science of river flow measurement (Embudo, New Mexico, birthplace of systematic stream gaging). Powell has both a postage stamp (see left) and a museum dedicated to his amazing life.
