Biography

When the University of Missouri--Kansas City enacted UMKC Forward, it introduced an academic realignment that sunsetted some academic programs and created new schools. The School of Science and Engineering (SSE) is one of three new schools that transitioned beginning in Summer 2021 and was in place as an academic unit in July 2022. The school contains academic programs from the former College of Arts and Sciences, the former School of Biological Sciences, and the former School of Computing and Engineering.

SSE contains four divisions of study: Biological and Biomedical Systems, which houses the Biology and Biomedical Engineering programs; Computing, Analytics and Mathematics, which houses the Computer Science and Information Technology and Mathematics and Statistics programs; Energy, Matter and Systems, which houses the Chemistry, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Physics programs; and Natural and Built Environment, which houses the Architecture and Urban Planning, Civil Engineering, and Earth and Environmental Sciences programs.

SSE houses the Innovation Studio, the Geosciences Museum, and the Warko Observatory.
