Ying Ruocheng Collection of Cao Yu and Beijing People's Art Theatre Photographs
Scope and Contents
This collection contains Ying Ruocheng's collected photographs that were previously used for a traveling exhibit. Many of the photographs have pencil inscriptions on the back written in Chinese. The first half of the collection (photographs labeled A through G) includes photographs that illustrate Chinese theatre performances of playwright Cao Yu's plays. The second half of the collection (photographs labeled H-AA) includes stills from other theatre productions performed by the Beijing People's Theatre (BPAT). Cao Yu founded the BPAT in 1952. Ying Ruocheng worked as a theatre translator, director, and actor for the BPAT, including translating the script and acting in the lead role in the 1983 production of Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman.
