George O. Pratt Papers

 Collection
Identifier: KC-19-17

Scope and Contents

This material was donated by George O. Pratt, a longtime friend of Edgar Snow's, to Mary Clark Dimond and was removed from her papers in July 1985.

This folder consists of correspondence concerning a proposed U.S. Senate-sponsored trip to China to observe the country's progress in river and power development. Most of the correspondence is between George O. Pratt, an engineer and specialist in underdeveloped countries, and Edgar Snow, who at Pratt's request was attempting to secure an invitation to the Senate committee from Chinese officials. The remainder of the correspondence is between Pratt and Michael Strauss, consultant to the Senate Interior Committee, regarding the China trip. The correspondence also includes discussion of Snow's recent publications at the time.
