Judy Ancel Collection
Scope and Contents
The Judy Ancel collection was acquired in August 2017 from Judy Ancel herself. This collection consists mostly of documents pertaining to labor education and labor history. Documents from the Institute for Labor Studies such as course material, articles, student papers on various historical events, and articles are all a part of this collection. Also making up a significant portion of this collection are items from the Heartland Labor Forum, Kansas City’s sole radio program about the workplace. The Judy Ancel collection also houses a large amount of documents from the AFL-CIO (American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations). Reports, booklets, and official papers from other various organizations under the AFL-CIO such as the United States Steelworkers of America, and the United Automobile Workers Union are all included. The collection also contains miscellaneous documents and memorabilia, as well as photographs, all involving the labor workforce.
This collection is a valuable addition to LaBudde Special Collections. Not only is the Ancel collection bountiful in size, the information contained inside is invaluable to any person entering the labor workforce. Labor education is rare and difficult to obtain. This collection, however, has the capability to provide patrons with the knowledge and resources needed to enter the union prepared and informed.
