Arch Martin Collection
Scope and Contents
The Arch Martin Collection was donated to the Dr. Kenneth J. LaBudde Department of Special Collections by Gene Martin in October 2016. The collection consists of items acquired during Martin’s career as a Kansas City jazz musician. Included is sheet music for big bands and combos of various instrumentation and music festival flyers and programs from Martin’s time serving as a guest clinician at many festival and summer programs in the Missouri area. News clippings and magazines make up a significant portion of this collection, including a special edition of the Kansas City Times from 1969 when the United States spacecraft, Apollo XI, landed on the moon, as well as several Downbeat magazines ranging from 1958-1976. Memorabilia and photographs are also included in this collection such as Jenkins Music Company patches and a nametag holder. The photographs included are mainly of jazz musicians, however, personal photographs are also contained in the collection. Recordings from this collection are housed in Marr Sound Archives.
