Sheet music from the Kansas City, World War I and World War II imprint collections is temporarily unavailable through Digital Special Collections. If you'd like to request any titles, please contact SpecialCollections@umkc.edu.
The Sheet Music Collection consists of tens of thousands of commercially published titles broken down into six imprint types. Each sheet music title belongs to a specific imprint collection, identified by a three-letter abbreviation in the finding aid. An abbreviation with the suffix "NS" indicates the title is not scanned.
1. Popular American Imprints (smc/smcNS)
The bulk of the original sheet music collection - tens of thousands of titles covering a variety of styles such as vaudeville, ragtime, big band, jazz, blues, and popular vocal, published in the United States, 1800s-2000s
2. Kansas City Imprints (kcs/kcsNS)
Hundreds of titles published in Kansas City, 1870s-1960s
3. Missouri and Kansas Imprints (mki/mkiNS)
Hundreds of titles published in Missouri and Kansas (excluding Kansas City), 1840s-1970s
4. World War I Imprints (ww1/ww1NS)
Hundreds of titles related to WWI, published primarily from 1914 to 1919
5. World War II Imprints (ww2/ww2NS)
Hundreds of titles related to WWII, published primarily from 1939 to 1945
6. Classical and Sacred Imprints (cscNS - all titles not scanned)
Hundreds of titles covering classical and sacred styles as well as international publishers and some popular forms such as polkas, waltzes, and marches, published primarily before 1900.
