Coterie Theatre Collection

 Collection
Identifier: MS-0253

Scope and Contents

The Coterie Theatre Collection was gifted to LaBudde Special Collections by the theatre in March 2014. The date range of the contents is from 1978 at its inception until 2013. Materials include production scrapbooks, financial data, various publications, posters, photographs and slides.

Scrapbooks contain mostly news clippings with scant correspondence. As the theatre evolved from its inception, the productions become more elaborate and dimensional. Local news reviews observe the artistic amenities the Coterie affords to Kansas City’s young and old alike. Perusing the collection, one might notice the “spotlight” shines bright on the large assemblage of colorful posters that highlight seasonal productions. The illustrations are eye catching, dealing with a multitude of subject matter, engaging the theatre goer with varied emotions including whimsy, drama, intrigue and even horror.

The Coterie Theatre Collection promises to be reference-worthy to any researcher geared to this field of study. In addition, the LaBudde Special Collections holds a conglomeration of theatre-related materials which will serve to complement this collection.
