The Kansas City Repertory Theatre Collection was transferred to LaBudde Special Collections in March 2013. The collection consists of materials related to seasonal productions of the theatre since its inception in 1964, under the original name of Missouri Repertory Theatre. Included in the substantial holdings are Programs; Play Guides; Promotional Ephemera and Memorabilia; News Clippings; Images; Business & Financial Data; Annual Reports; and Audio and Video. The wide range of materials in the collections reflect the efforts required to produce and promote professional theatrical productions. In addition, the collection provides a unique window into a half-century of Kansas City theatre history.

Photographs from the Kansas City Repertory Collection are distributed throughout the collection, remaining with materials from specific seasonal productions. Individual cast members were identified whenever possible.

The collection is particularly strong in promotional materials, including production photographs that number over 90,000 in physical and digital formats. There is a gap in the holdings that reflects the design work associated with each production – e.g., costume, set, and lighting design –and it is hoped those materials will eventually be housed with the collection at some point in the future.
