Luyben Music Collection
Scope and Contents
The Luyben Music Collection was donated by Annette Luyben to LaBudde Special Collections in summer 2020. The collection consists of business records, correspondence, publications, events, organizations, resources, awards, memorabilia, and photos relating to Luyben Music, Luyben clarinet ligatures, and members of the family who ran the business. Materials include official documentation on the building for the store, records on interaction with customers, products or merchandise, letters, news clippings and magazine article, programs, pamphlets, advertisements, pictures, and more dating from 1930-2022. An Abstract of Title for the Luyben Music store at the Main Street location contains records dating as far back as March 8, 1834. In addition to information on the store, this collection contains information about the history of the Luyben family, including their friends, business colleagues, membership in various organizations, scholarship programs, and participation at conferences and other events or concerts.
