 File — Box: 4, Folder: 10

Scope and Contents

From the Series:

Contained in boxes 1-408, and consists of personal and professional papers related to and generated during Bolling's time in office from 1949 to 1983. His papers include internal memos, letters, legislative items, published and unpublished reports, appointment schedules, invitations, invoices, constituent requests and other documents. Materials in box 404 (along with select items in boxes 414, 418 and 420) are from Larry Bodinson, longtime aide to Bolling. Arranged roughly by term, the original organization of the Bolling papers largely has been maintained. When possible, subject headings on the original file folders were retained, while information in brackets has been provided by archive staff to enhance existing or replace missing information of a folder's original description. Additional description by archive staff is prefaced with "Archival note:" and appear as supplemental notes in the finding aid. At times, subject headings are standardized to improve clarity and searching of this finding aid, and as such may differ slightly from the original descriptions preserved on the physical folders. For example, variations of "Department of Justice" ("Justice, Department of", "Justice Department", "Justice Dept.", "Justice", and "Jus") written on folders are streamlined to a single term ("Justice (DOJ)") in the finding aid. Where acronyms are used on the original folder descriptions, the finding aid replaces most of them with the full name of the entity followed by the abbreviation in parentheses (e.g., folder = "HUD" / finding aid = "Housing and Urban Development (HUD)"). Descriptions for standing files for departments and committees generally have the word "Department" or "Committee" omitted from the name when listed in the finding aid (e.g., folder = "Ways and Means Committee" / finding aid = "Ways and Means"). Many, but not all, files from Bolling's office also designated the Congressional term and session; similarly, those variations are standardized in the finding aid as a "(term/session)" format using ordinal numerals (e.g., folder = "92nd Congress, 1st Session" / finding aid = "(92nd/1st)"). There are additional files related to specific legislation of which Bolling sponsored/introduced, cosponsored or otherwise was involved, including bills (H.R.), joint resolutions (H.J.Res), concurrent resolutions (H.Con.Res) and simple resolutions (H.Res.). Rounding out this series are campaign files, personal files and other miscellaneous subjects tracked during Bolling's decades-long tenure in Congress.
