This folder contains a lithograph of Robert Schumann done by P. Rohrbach. It was originally published by Edwin F. Kalmus, 209 W. 57th St., New York, City. It was printed in Austria. Included with the lithograph is a letter written and autographed by Schuman, and it is dated Leipzig, May, 1840.

From 1832-1839 Schuman composed almost entirely for the piano. The year this letter was written is often referred to as Schumann’s year of the song, as he composed 168 of them in the single year.
