Scope and Contents

This folder contains a photograph of the composer taken in Berlin by photographer Maria Fellinger. In addition to the photograph, an autographed correspondence between Brahms and John E.W. Fritsach This letter is postmarked: Vienna, April 14, 1894. During this time, Brahms was composing his Op. 120 Nos. 1 and 2, a pair of clarinet sonatas dedicated to his friend Richard Mühlfeld The works were completed in the summer of that year, just three years before the composer’s death in 1897. They remain amongst the standard clarinet repertoire.
