Scope and Contents

Scrapbook A is housed in box 8 and Scrapbook B in box 9. Scrapbook A is composed almost entirely of newspaper clippings. Many of these clippings refer to the exploits of C. C. Calvert (City Clerk for Goodland Kansas 1906 - ?). Several other clippings contain poems, comics, and recipes, mostly from unidentified sources. Of particular interest is a collection of postcards dating from 1906. Scrapbook B was compiled by Johnny Coon. It contains several photographs of Carleton Coon, as well as much memorabilia related to the original Carleton Coon Blackhawks Orchestra. Of particular interest are several photographs of the Carleton Coon Orchestra taken at Niagara Falls. This scrapbook also contains much memorabilia and photographs related to the Johnny Coon Orchestra. In addition, it also contains several photographs of the Coon family. Scrapbook B is mostly intact, while items that have fallen from the pages are included in separate inserts contained also within box 9.
