Scope and Contents

Correspondence includes letters addressed to friends, family members, business associates, media, politicians, and organizations, covering topics that include gay and lesbian civil rights, AIDS, love letters, and business dealings. Of special note is a coming out letter addressed to Barnett’s parents where he discloses his diagnosis of AIDS. Writings include a biography, radio script, dream analysis and speeches. Articles include news clippings from Alternate News, The Pitch and the Kansas City Star. Of note is a column titled “Bandit” that he wrote for Alternate News. Campaign content includes press releases, a strategy document, a budget, position publications and promotional ephemera. The MOTF content includes nominee applications, memos, and a Missouri on the Move (MOM) conference evaluation.
