Reuben Finnell Roy, 1877 - 1914

Scope and Contents

This series contains approximately 295 letters addressed to Reuben F. Roy and dated 1873-1920. Besides correspondence, there are some miscellaneous notes and ephemera relating to Roy. The first sub-series is correspondence relating to his professional career as a lawyer and as a Circuit Court Judge. These are sorted in chronological order with the exception of one folder which has letters specifically from Lily B. Whitecotton, a client of Roy’s. The second sub-series contains correspondence of a political nature, such as endorsements, congressional campaigns and references to current political happenings locally and nationally. These are grouped chronologically with the exception of a group of letters from H.B. Garver of a political and personal nature. The third sub-series contains letters from friends. The fourth sub-series contains letters from family members. Particularly interesting are the letters from Roy’s wife, Margaret, who speaks of Temperance and Women’s Rights. The fifth sub-series has miscellaneous correspondence and ephemera which did not fit into previous sub-series categories. Located in Box 1; and Box 2, Folders 1-9.
