Scope and Contents

From the Series:

This series boasts a large assortment of top record surveys distributed by local radio stations, including WHB, KUDL, KBEQ, KCMO and KCKN. There are also surveys by Oklahoma-based radio stations KOMA, KWHP and WKY. The surveys range in date from 1963-1975, with bulk dates from 1966-1970. The majority of record surveys are from WHB. Its “40 Star Survey” was issued weekly and the lyrics to the number one record for the week was written on the back of the survey. Often the lyrics varied from the original song and could be a source of humor for someone familiar with the correct version. The surveys from KUDL advertise local musical venues and artists. This series is an iconic representation of youth culture in the 1960s and the musical sounds that motivated daily lifestyles. Rounding out this series are miscellaneous news clippings, flyers and magazine publications. Material is located in boxes 1-3.
