Scope and Contents

This series is contained in box 1, folders 1-5. Folder 1 consists of biographical information about Epperson, death notices, a copy of his death certificate, posthumous tributes, a leather-bound memorial booklet presented to Mrs. Epperson from the Commerce Trust Company of Kansas City (with signatures of sympathy from Walter S. Dickey, J.C. Nichols and others); and An Appreciation of Mrs. U.S. Epperson, a typed document by the Board of Governors of the Kansas City Art Institute authored after her death. Folder 2 consists of two pamphlets pertaining to the Epperson House that contain images and information about its history, as well as additional background on Epperson himself. Folder 3 consists of news clippings and promotional ephemera about Epperson’s Megaphone Minstrels, a charitable troupe comprising prominent local business and civic leaders(and included white performers in blackface). Folder 4 consists of news clippings about the establishment and dedication of the U.S. Epperson Memorial Hall at the Kansas City Art Institute. Folder 5 consists of miscellaneous news clippings covering other business and civic activities, two bookplates, a steam ship passenger list from 1895, and a souvenir program for a 1901 masquerade ball.
