Biography

Author Margaret H. Stanley co-founded The Yenan Hui in 1977 with Helen Foster Snow, with the purpose to preserve the unique experiences of pre-1949 visitors to areas controlled by Chinese Communists. Stanley worked in China from 1946 to 1948 as a nurse in the Friends Ambulance Service Unit in Honan, Yenan, and the surrounding area. She returned to China, visiting Yenan, in 1972, 1978, 1981, and 1983. She spent five months in 1986 working for Gung Ho Cooperatives in Beijing.
