Biography

Richard Pirodsky was born on August 10, 1955, in Long Island, New York. He studied drama at Carnegie Mellon and New York University and performed as a professional actor for a time until shifting his career to public media management. Pirodsky worked at KKFI in Kansas City, Missouri, and at KPVL in Decorah, Iowa, before becoming General Manager of the Pacifica radio stations KPFA in Berkeley and KPFK in Los Angeles. Not only was he passionate about his job in radio, but he also loved Old-Time Radio, collected radio programs, and was member of SPERDVAC

Pirodsky was also a researcher and a writer. He authored a script for a documentary about President Harry Truman for the Harry S. Truman Good Neighbor Award Foundation, and published the book, The Demigod.

Radio producer and media manager, Richard Pirodsky donated his collection of radio broadcasts to the Marr Sound Archives in August 2012. The collection includes open reel audiotapes and cassettes that Pirodsky collected and produced.
