Biography

Michael Johnston was born Sept 10, 1951. He was a songwriter and a musician, proficient at multiple instruments. He started his musical career at age 13 with bands at school and then by age 17 was playing in the community. By age 19, he was working with Marvin Fremerman (Fremerman Follies) and was hired by Bernstein, Rein and Bozeman to create the radio spots for H. D. Lee Movin On. In addition, he also created other radio spots for Kitty Clover Potato Chips and Drive-In Movies.

Johnston also worked for about 20 years with Ted Anderson in several bands, including Company Car and Another Town, as well as Bill Barlow’s Duck Band. He and his wife, Rhonda Kaye Johnston, performed together all over the Kansas City region from 1998-2015 and specifically with the Pilgrim Chapel Gospel Music Icons.

Johnston died June 1, 2016, from cancer.
