Biography
Lewis Spratlan is a composer and professor from Miami, Florida. He attended Yale University where he received his Master’s and studied with Mel Powell as well as Gunther Schuller. He has composed three operas, music for chorus, solo instrument, orchestra, electro-acoustic, and chamber ensemble. His opera, Life is a Dream, received a Pulitzer Prize in 2000 for a concert-version of Act II. Spratlan has been the recipient of a Guggenheim, National Endowment for the Arts, a MacDowell Fellowship, and many more awards.
