Biography

Diana Hearne James was born Diana Reid Hearne March 13, 1915, in Kansas City, Missouri. Her parents were William Lowder Hearne and Dorothy Reid Hearne. Diana was married twice. Her first marriage was to Erasmus [Ras] Bealls, an instructor at the Kansas City Art Institute. She later married Frederic James, also an instructor at the Kansas City Art Institute. Frederic was a renowned artist who worked in watercolors and also played the cello. Diana and Frederic were also friends with Thomas Hart Benton and his wife Rita. Diana Hearne James died June 1, 1997, in Westwood, Massachusetts.
