Biography

Gerard Hekking served as first cellist of the Concertgebouw Orchestra from 1903 until 1914. From 1927 until his death he taught cello at the Paris Conservatory. He composed several works for cello and piano, but it was as a cellist that his career flourished.

In one particular performance of their 1926 tour, Ravel and Francescatti were joined by Hekking as well as soprano Dorothy Silk, and accompanist George Reeves. This performance took place on February 2, 1926 at Town Hall in Birmingham England.
