Biography

Giuseppe Ferrata was an Italian-born composer and pianist who immigrated to the states at the age of twenty-seven. While in Rome, he studied at the Accademia di S. Cecilia and also worked with Sgambati and Liszt in piano studies. From 1909 until his death in 1929, Ferrata worked as a piano professor at the Sophie Newcomb College in New Orleans, having held various teaching positions across the nation before at various schools. Ferrata composed operas- although they were never published-, vocal works, piano solos, and chamber music.
