Biography

Dorothy Hewson Green Dreher was born April 3, 1915, in Kansas City, Missouri, to J. Frederick Green and Lotta Hewson Green. She was graduated from Southwest High School and from Smith College with honors. Her career included working as a case worker for the Jackson County Welfare Agency and as an Assistant to the Book Editor of Newsweek in New York City. She also taught for many years in the Kansas City public schools. Dreher had a special interest in writing and her verse was published nationally as well as locally in the Kansas City Star, among other publications. She was a founder of UMKC Friends of the Library, a member of Friends of Art and of the Kansas City Community Gardens. Dreher died July 27, 2001.
