Biography

In 1963, Allan Bell founded America’s Best Attractions (ABA), a state and union licensed theatrical and music agency headquartered in North Kansas City, Missouri. A trained lawyer, Bell served as owner, operator and bookkeeper of ABA, personally booking gigs and managing artists through his agency. ABA handled a variety of local, regional and national talents: singers, bands, musicians, orchestras, dancers, burlesque performers, magicians, puppeteers, comedians, speakers, circus and animal acts. Allan Bell Charters, the travel affiliate of ABA handling group, business and organization charters to destinations worldwide, was established in 1970.

Scope and Contents The Allan Bell Collection was purchased by LaBudde Special Collections from Nancy Rooks in September 2008. The collection originally was acquired from Allan Bell by Ron Rooks, Nancy’s late husband and owner of Music Exchange record store in Kansas City, Missouri. Material chronicles from 1961 to 1976 Bell’s theatrical and music agency America’s Best Attractions (ABA) situated in North Kansas City, with the majority of material concentrated between 1965 and 1973.
