Biography

When the University of Missouri--Kansas City enacted UMKC Forward, it introduced an academic realignment that sunsetted some academic programs and created new schools. The School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS) is one of three new schools that transitioned beginning in Summer 2021 and was in place as an academic unit in July 2022. The school contains academic programs from the former College of Arts and Sciences.

SHSS includes the following departments: Media, Art and Design; Communication and Journalism; English Language and Literature; Foreign Languages and Literatures; History; Sociology and Anthropology; Economics; Political Science and Philosophy; Race, Ethnic and Gender Studies; and Criminal Justice and Criminology.

The school offers academic programs in the Applied Language Institute, Classical and Ancient Studies, Digital and Public Humanities, Liberal Arts, Medieval and Early Modern Studies, Pre-Law, and World Languages and Cultures.
