Biography

When the University of Missouri--Kansas City enacted UMKC Forward, it introduced an academic realignment that sunsetted some academic programs and created new schools. The School of Education, Social Work and Psychological Sciences (ESWPS) is one of three new schools that transitioned beginning in Summer 2021 and was in place as an academic unit in July 2022. The school contains academic programs from the former College of Arts and Sciences and the former School of Education.

Departments under ESWPS include: Education Leadership, Policy and Foundation; Teacher Education and Curriculum Studies; Social Work; Counseling and Counseling Psychology; and Psychology. These programs are nationally accredited at the bachelor's level and master's level.

ESWPS houses the Berkley Child and Family Development Center, Community Counseling and Assessment Services (CCAS), the Kansas City Regional Professional Development Center (KCRPDC), the Urban Education Research Center, and the Institute for Urban Education (IUE).
