Heart of America Federation of Square & Round Dance Clubs

 Organization

Biography

The Heart of America Federation of Square Dance Clubs (HOAFSDC) was established in 1952 in Kansas City, Missouri to promote square and folk dancing by cultivating individual clubs and promoting friendly relations among member clubs. Dick Flucke, the acting chairman in the formation of the Federation, served with his wife Doris Flucke as its first president and as chairperson of the second National Square Dance Convention, hosted by the HOAFSDC in Kansas City, Missouri in 1953. The HOAFSDC also hosted the twenty-fourth National Square Dance Convention in 1975, chaired by Chuck and Margaret Teeple and attended by Missouri Governor “Kit” Bond and Kansas City Mayor Charles Wheeler.

By 2002 the organization had fifty-eight member clubs spanning eastern Kansas and western Missouri. This number decreased to twenty-four by 2023. In 2022 Doug and Sandy Finnicum became president of HOAFSDC.
